Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Litigation Legal Assistant for our client in St. Joseph! The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive support to our litigation attorneys, ensuring smooth and efficient workflow in all aspects of litigation matters. 
 
Responsibilities:
  • Assist attorneys in all phases of litigation, including preparation of pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and other legal documents.
  • Coordinate and manage document production, including drafting correspondence, discovery requests, and responses.
  • Maintain and organize case files, ensuring all relevant documents and materials are accurately filed and easily accessible.
  • Conduct legal research using various resources, such as Westlaw or LexisNexis, to support attorneys in case preparation and strategy.
  • Assist in trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, witness lists, and trial binders.
  • Coordinate communication and scheduling with clients, witnesses, court personnel, and opposing counsel.
  • Manage deadlines and calendars for court appearances, filings, and other litigation-related activities.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, such as billing, expense tracking, and time entry.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and adhere to ethical standards in handling client matters.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by attorneys and legal management.
 
Qualifications:
  • Previous experience working as a legal assistant or paralegal, preferably in a litigation practice area.
  • Proficiency in legal research and document management software.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with clients, attorneys, and staff.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in work product.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with court rules, procedures, and electronic filing systems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Professional demeanor with a commitment to providing excellent client service.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Paralegal certificate or equivalent education/training.
  • Experience with litigation support software, such as Relativity or Summation.
  • Familiarity with local and federal court rules and procedures.
  • Experience assisting with trial preparation and courtroom proceedings.
