Job Description

We are looking for an Intellectual Property Patent Paralegal for our client in Detroit! You will play a crucial role in supporting the legal team in matters related to intellectual property (IP) law. You will be responsible for assisting attorneys in all stages of IP proceedings, including trademark, copyright, and patent matters. 
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Assist in trademark searches and clearance activities to ensure the availability of trademarks.
  • Prepare and file trademark applications, including drafting necessary documentation and correspondence.
  • Monitor trademark deadlines, renewals, and maintenance requirements.
  • Conduct trademark watch services to identify potential infringements.
  • Assist in copyright registration processes, including preparing and filing applications.
  • Maintain copyright records and track renewal deadlines.
  • Manage copyright assignments, licenses, and permissions.
  • Assist with patent prosecution activities, including drafting and filing patent applications.
  • Manage patent docketing, including tracking deadlines and submissions.
  • Coordinate with patent attorneys and inventors to ensure accurate and timely filings.
  • Conduct legal research on intellectual property matters, including case law and regulations.
  • Prepare legal documents, including correspondence, agreements, and filings.
  • Maintain electronic and physical files, ensuring accuracy and organization.
  • Schedule meetings, hearings, and appointments for attorneys.
  • Coordinate communication between clients, attorneys, and external parties.
  • Assist in billing and invoicing processes related to IP matters.
 
Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in intellectual property law, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and databases.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and legal software applications.
