Job Title: Pipefitter
Pay Rate:  $24.00/hr. - $30.00/hr.
Shift:  1st, with flexible schedule

Job Summary:
 The Pipefitter is responsible for correctly assembling piping components based on detailed drawings. This includes selecting the appropriate materials, dimensions (both linear and angular), and ensuring compliance with stated specifications and tolerances. The role may also involve welding smaller joints, including but not limited to socket welds, structural fillet welds, and tack welds. A strong understanding of basic mathematics, geometry, trigonometry, and general pipefitting techniques is required. The ability to tack and weld using the GTAW process is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Incorporate safety responsibilities and activities into daily tasks.
  • Assemble and secure pipe system layouts, installations, or repairs according to specifications and tolerances.
  • Cut pipe to specifications using tools such as cutting torches and cut-off wheels.
  • Verify, lay out, and mark all penetration locations, rolls, elevations, etc., before making cuts, burning, or drilling holes.
  • Lay out full-scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, and related equipment following blueprints.
  • Proficiency in oxy-fuel setup, adjustment, and regulation of tanks, hoses, and torches.
  • Ensure proper filler metal is used for tacks per shop drawing.
  • Ensure proper preheat temperature is used per shop drawing.
  • Use proper tacking techniques for joints, including consumable tacks and bridge tacks.
  • Follow standard shop practices for pipefitting, including correctly transferring material markings to maintain material traceability.
  • Install any necessary kickers, strongbacks, or other required supports for safely handling and fabricating pipe systems.
  • Evaluate drawings for correct fitting sequences.
  • Clean out pipes and fittings of debris, such as burning flash/slag, rocks, burnout slugs, and drill shavings.
  • Adhere to company mission and values.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as directed by shop supervision.
 
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to move freely throughout a manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to carry and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Visual acuity to see details at close and long range, as well as peripheral vision.
  • Ability to work safely around electric grinders, flame torches, and floor/overhead hazards.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Certification in GTAW process (company-standardized tack test).
  • Knowledge of safely using shop-provided tools, including electric grinders, die grinders, fuel-air heating torches, oxy-fuel cutting torches, plasma cutters, overhead cranes, and jib cranes.
  • Proficiency in practical and theoretical knowledge of fitting techniques and materials processing in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with various welding and fitting techniques, including butt-weld, socket weld, threaded weld, valve, nipple, couplets, branchettes, nozzles, elbows, crosses, laterals, and flanged fittings.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, principles, tools, and instruments involved in the production and use of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Strong comprehension of the English language, including reading and understanding detailed drawings and specifications.
  • Practical application of engineering technology principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment for process piping design and production.
  • Proficiency in reading piping isometric blueprints with complex dimensional details.
  • Strong skills in trade math related to pipefitting.
  • Ability to identify different grades of piping and classifications of fittings.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Comprehensive understanding of principles, methods, and techniques used in the pipefitting trade.
Education and Work Experience:
  • Minimum of one (1) year of pipefitting experience.
  • Must pass a pipefitters written exam and a 2” Schedule 80, 6G GTAW weld test.
  • High school diploma required. Relevant coursework in mathematics, physics, and mechanical drawing is recommended. Shop courses in welding and electrical principles are beneficial.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
